Recent teenage alcohol abuse statistics show that alcohol abuse among teenagers is increasing in the United States. What are some of the reasons for this? Quite a few alcohol addiction authorities state that liquor, wine, and beer ads created by the media are a major reason for the increase in teen alcohol abuse.

Other substance abuse professionals argue that the increase in teen alcohol abuse is due to the acceptability and ease of access of beer, liquor, and wine in our society. Still other alcoholism specialists think that numerous young people involve themselves in abusive drinking because of the increased apprehension that they are subjected to.

From a somewhat different point of view, due to the fact that both parents in a number of families work, the lack of parental guidance positively has to play a key role in the escalation of teen alcohol abuse. And last of all, various substance abuse authorities argue that the rise in teenage alcohol abuse is due, in some way, to our "anything goes" society.

More specifically, students who show evidence of outstanding coping skills will be more able to think clearly and show signs of quality decision making as opposed to teenagers who, because they failed to obtain quality coping skills, gravitate to the "quick fix" of abusive and excessive drinking.

What would happen in the above "ideal" society, what's more, if young people not only got exceptional coping skills training but also received a top shelf education that stressed the short term and long term destructive outcomes associated with alcohol abuse and drug abuse? Emphasizing these teenage alcohol and drug abuse facts, along with more highly developed coping skills training, it is declared, would help teenagers stay away from the apparent charm correlated with adolescent drinking and, for that reason, would drastically diminish the alcohol abuse demonstrated by adolescents in our country.

There are unquestionably numerous compelling reasons why so many of our adolescents drink in a harmful manner. Such a thorny predicament demands a comprehensive and more pertinent response by our parents, students, politicians, and educators so that our adolescents can learn how to cope with life's problems in a more productive and accountable manner rather than gravitating to alcohol abuse to solve their problems.
