I'm a numbers person, so I seriously consider my family's budget. For the most part, we're a pretty simple family, but the one spending category that really disturbs me is just how much we spend on food. And I don't indicate eating out... Meal planning also reduces the number of times I go to the food store (I used to go nearly every day!), which means fewer impulse purchases. I don't know about you, but every time I go to the store to get one or two items, I've spent $50 or $60 before I know it. Weekly meal planning allows decrease unnecessary purchases, this means huge savings over the long run. Cutting out the daily grocery trips probably saves me a lot in our grocery budget.

Save Time

Another advantage to weekly menu planning is the time it saves you. First, since you spend less time figuring out what to cook for lunch (or surfing the web for ideas). Secondly, since you already have everything you need to cook dinner (for the whole week!) you will not have to run by the store after picking the kids up or on your way from work. Imagine how much time you'll save only from eliminating daily trips to the grocery shop. If you're much like me and go to the shop several times a week, you could save a couple of hours of time simply by planning your meals ahead of time.

Eat Healthier

Another huge advantage you get from weekly menu planning is that it helps you eat healthier. People who do meal planning often eat better because they go out to eat less often. By dining out less often, you cut out much of the fatty foods that you would usually eat at fast food restaurants. Also, when you cook at home, you're able to select fresh, healthy ingredients for your meals.
